With all of its resources one would expect something out of them, especially given the importance of the hemp issue. JOBS. RAW MATERIALS. CLEAN ENVIRONMENT.
Now an issue in NYC is plastic bags, and this could be resolved by using hemp string bags - grown and made in America. (One source of hemp stems for string could be pot growers donating the stems...)
Then the used bags, they are used for weeks each one before they are worn out - could be recycled into paper. Simple. Made in the USA.
And as Mark noted, newspapers used to be made of hemp paper. Some seem to think this is my fault as I live in NYC and would therefore have some influence with the NYT. Not so. They have been contacted by me for many years, and as with many issues, they disregard the key people in the movement. They then send a reporter who ignores the facts. Not only with hemp, but with many other issues.
It is sad, however, I hope to see them write a lenthtier piece and do justice to this issue. Americans need hemp and have a historical right to it. The newspapers in this country, maybe not the NYT, but certainly the Hearst papers, screwed the people over when WR Hearst wanted to use tree pulp for paper.
The people must put pressure on the papers and get them to report fully and honestly on this issue or the US will not make hemp legal, there will continue to be economic distress, and things will get worse all around.
I did send in a letter to the NYT two days after this article appeared, pointing out the lack of facts and asking that they commission another piece.
I would ask the reader here to help with this, call or write the NYT and let's get this done.
Here are some contact details:
212 556 7652 public editor
212 556 1831 op ed submissions
212 556 1234 main switchboard
letters@nytimes.com
public@nytimes.com
publisher@nytimes.com
ceo@nytimes.com
Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05666359275619895512noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29305784.post-15906256004559493502013-02-16T09:45:46.691-08:002013-02-16T09:45:46.691-08:00The consensus from these comments and emails I hav...The consensus from these comments and emails I have been getting is that the reporter really had no clue about the issue. To make room for tree based pulp for Hearst papers. What is the NYT using? Not hemp I assure you. And they know so little about the issue. Why not some insight into the US companies like Minawear that are selling hemp items?
And no mention of the petition to the White House at www.minawear.com/abou-us/
GOPbusterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06952456463363841836noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29305784.post-32426403526877453102013-02-15T08:40:37.057-08:002013-02-15T08:40:37.057-08:00This article is so lacking in any basic context th...This article is so lacking in any basic context that it makes most people think it is some esoteric issue of a pothead issue - it says Woody Harrelson is a pot activist, he is actually much a hemp, that is industrial hemp, activist, he did write the foreword to the book "Hemp for Victory" by Kenyon Gibson recently, and is not just for smoking it as the article allows the reader to believe.
The NYT did not do much research! There are much better pieces in the Guardian, LA Times, etc. But even these papers need to write more recent pieces, that is, if they cared.Carloshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15194441966372981416noreply@blogger.com
