THE USE OF THE WORD HEMP

Whilst hemp today refers only to products of the Cannabis sativa plant, possibly excluding the recreational bits known as 'marijuana' or 'hashish', it has been used more generically in the past, mainly to denote rope fibres from a number of plants.
